Advocacy Based Counseling
Forks Abuse Program provides Advocacy Based Counseling over the phone on our crisis
line or in person. Advocacy Based Counseling means:
- Listening
- Helping to clarify issues
- Offering options
- Safety Planning--identifying barriers to safety and creating a plan that suits client needs
- Support
- Resource Referrals
- Hospital Accompaniment
- Police Accompaniment
- Confidentiality
Shelter
Emergency shelter is available for survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in
immediate danger. Shelter services include:
- Emergency food and shelter
- 24 hour access to shelter and assistance
- Assistance in finding permanent housing
- Outside referrals to counseling and other services
- Direct Access to Advocacy Based Counseling with shelter staff
- Access to all other Forks Abuse Program services (see below)
Legal Advocacy
Forks Abuse Program provides a Legal Advocate to help with issues such
as child custody, divorce, Protection Orders and legal/court systems
(but please note that a legal advocate is different from an attorney,
and cannot offer legal advice). However, we can help with:
- Protection Orders
- Anti-Harassment Orders
- Court Accompaniment
- Immigration
- Dependency
- Custody/Visitation/Parenting Plans
- Paternity
- Referrals to other legal resources
- Divorce
Youth Advocacy
Our Youth Advocacy program at Forks Abuse works with children and their parents to address the issues of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Services include:
- Parenting Classes
- Teen Support Group
- Children's Support Group (ages 7-11)
- Homework assistance
- Individual Advocacy Based Counseling for parents and children
- Safety Planning
Community Advocacy
Addressing the issue of violence cannot be left to crisis services alone. To educate the community, to help with on-going healing and learning, and to help stop future violence, we offer community advocacy.
